"Sometimes adults realize that they made mistakes... and sometimes.... their mistakes cost a lot of money, and require a lot of food... and educations..."
-Anthony, in Alex's Mind Dungeon

Anthony Eggleston (sometimes referred to as Dad or Antonio) is the father of Alex and Allison Eggleston and the ex-husband of Avril Eggleston. He and Avril watched Kaiju MECHAJAW Returns by Kisage X on their first date at an unspecified time.

Anthony is physically absent for the majority of YIIK: A Postmodern RPG after abandoning his family in pursuit of "a youthful dream with nice legs" across the country. He is implied to have fathered Allison through an affair with Candy Mancer. Anthony left Alex with several of his things, including the plaid flannel Alex always wears. At one point during Alex's childhood, he may have worked for Pacific Chime.

Andrew Allanson has stated that Wilfrid represents Alex's view of Anthony (a sexy loser), while William represents Allison's view of him (a loser with nobody to show up for his birthday party)[1].

Personality

[edit | edit source]

Anthony seems to care about Allison, taking her into his care and defending her from Avril's wrath after her birth mother could no longer care for her for an unknown reason. He refers to her as "princess" and insists Avril call her "Carrie." However, he shows little regard for other people in his life, and that often includes Allison. He believes both Avril and Alex have something wrong with their heads.

Anthony views others' suffering as comedy. He gives Nameless (as Allison) the Tank Karta as a "prank" despite the clear distress it causes her. In Deviation Perspective II, he finds it amusing that Avril is overmedicating on sleeping pills and performs a standup comedy routine to baby Alex about it. He calls baby Alex a "fucking freak" and "nerd," and he seems to find this amusing. Despite this, he makes an attempt to communicate with child Alex, who at the time had difficulty conversing or expressing emotions implied to be a result of his autism. While Alex is only able to communicate in Kisage X quotes during his early childhood, Anthony replies with other quotes to make Alex happy.

Anthony is also promiscuous, and he projects that onto Alex. He is depicted less clothed than other men in the series, wearing only boxers, socks, and a half-unbuttoned flannel shirt. He cheats on Avril, his wife, with Candy Mancer to father Allison. He eventually leaves his family to pursue another younger woman on the other side of the country. At the Cape Juno wrap party, he asks Asuka if she is free after so he could take her out. When Alex sees a vision of Anthony at the end of the world, he tells Alex in a sing-song voice that the "little girl" that moved into Michael's house was looking for him.
