Is it REALLY New York City?

As far as I can see, every reference to the location Alex and gang head to at the end of the game is called "The City", but never New York City, or the "Big Apple". It's all just indirect references from NPCs that talk about going to New York, and the overworld map (which may not be accurate considering Alex is an unreliable narrator)... "The City" is a saying which refers to NYC, particularly since New Jersey is right next to it. (Humorously, another nickname is "The Center of the Universe") One of the shops in the city is named "7th Ave", which I think refers to NYC's 7th Avenue. And while NYC is never named specifically in-game, in the game's script internally it does use "NYC" as an acronym for the scenes which take place in the city. "The ball drop" seen in the game is also a NYC staple, maybe other cities have it but the way its depicted in the game is based on NYC at least to me.

I think the bigger question is: if it wasn't NYC I'm unsure what it would refer to, or why it would be a detail Alex would lie about. LinguisticSpaceship (talk) 18:32, 25 March 2026 (UTC)
